Overview

The first few months of a baby’s life are imperative for the development of attachment. For babies who spend much of their early life in out of home settings, the relationship with a key person or persons in that setting is especially significant. This course is for all teachers and co-professionals that work with children and babies, that wish to further their understanding of the importance of the bonds they will make with these children.

This course will give an insight into the developmental strength of the attachment and key person approach. It will enable staff to make effective plans to aid the attachment process and use it to provide developmental support.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To develop an understanding of attachment theory and how this influences children’s behaviour
  2. To understand why developing attachments is important
  3. To understand different types of attachment classifications
  4. To understand how attachment theory relates to the key person approach

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
