Every child deserves the best possible start in life, with the opportunity to develop in an environment that is both safe and secure. Parents who use Early Years services should be able to do so with the utmost confidence that their children will be getting the best possible experiences and are always protected from harm. The premises and equipment should be clean, and providers should be aware of the requirements of current health and safety legislation (including hygiene requirements). In addition, a health and safety policy should be in place which includes procedures for identifying, reporting and dealing with accidents, hazards and faulty equipment.

This course will enable managers to ensure that their organisation and staff are fully prepared to meet the statutory obligations.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  2. To learn about policies and procedures and know where to look for legislation and guidelines
  3. To learn how to identify hazards and be able to complete risk assessments
  4. To understand how to ensure that adequate first aid provision is provided, and the importance of accident reporting
