Overview

Working in a baby room is a special kind of work and requires a certain kind of person. Staff in a baby room should be qualified and/or have significant experience with babies. The EYFS statutory framework suggests a minimum of two years’ experience working in the sector and qualifications to work in a baby room. Staff working in a baby room NEED to be aware of the conditions and illnesses that can happen in early childhood, how to identify them and what to do.

This course will look at separation anxiety and the changes that take place in a mother’s brain after birth, as well as the importance of play and some guidance for putting a baby to sleep.

The learning objectives for this course are as follows:

  1. To understand why a couple may separate after having a baby
  2. To understand brain changes in new mothers
  3. To learn more about maternity leave
  4. To understand the importance of play for babies
  5. To learn the dos and don’ts of putting your baby to sleep, along with the significance of sleep for a baby
  6. To understand the importance of recording information

This course will ensure your practice is in line with the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, The Early Years Framework and The Foundation Phase. It will also support your continuous professional development in line with the Early Years Teachers Standards.
