Description & Learning objectives

Attachment in the early years covers theory and research in the area of attachment in early childhood

Using both a theoretical perspective as well as focusing on practical applications, the course will allow practitioners to understand the signs of poor attachment and what the impact of this may be in terms of behaviour and emotional well-being. The course will also look at Erikson’s psychosocial theory, and the impact on children and their socialisation.

The learning outcomes for this course are as follows:

  • To understand attachment in young children
  • To be aware of the impact of poor attachment in the early years and beyond
  • To know Bowlby and Ainsworth’s attachment theories
  • To understand Erikson’s psychosocial theory and other theories that conflict with attachment theory
  • To understand attachment and the key person
  • To know strategies for promoting positive attachments

This course is CPD accredited and adheres to Ofsted regulations and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

It is also tailored to where you live in the UK, adhering to each country’s own individual regulators – namely: Ofsted, The Care Inspectorate (Wales), The Care Inspectorate (Scotland), and The Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (Northern Ireland).
